#29 Hal Jeffcoat

"His Walk About" - Hal Jeffcoat batted .248 and collected 487 hits over parts of 12 Major League seasons. Far and away his best season at the plate was as a rookie with the Cubs in 1948 when he batted .279 with 132 hits while appearing in 134 games, all career highs. Hal would see his playing time as a hitter slowly diminish to near zero in 1954 when he transitioned to being primarily a pitcher. From 1954-1959 Hal posted a record of 39-37 with a 4.22 ERA.
"That's Not a Knife" - ...Maybe it was a knife? Hal earned a Purple Heart while serving as a paratrooper during World War II.
"More of a love bite really..." - This card is more or less how a 70 year old baseball card is supposed to look in my mind. Correct me in the comments if I'm wrong.
"Down Under" - Jeffcoat is card #341 in the 1952 set. That's a high number that I don't have. It appears that Hal was consistent in the way he wore his hat on the two cards, and while neither is all that memorable, I prefer the '53. That stretches the '53 set's lead to 31-27-7.
