#23 Toby Atwell

28.8% complete

"His Walk About" - Atwell played for the Milwaukee Braves, Pittsburgh Pirates, and Chicago Cubs over the course of his 5 seasons in the majors.  He was named to his only All-Star team as a member of the Cubs during his rookie season in 1952 when he batted a career best .290 and played in 107 games, also a career high.  He retired a .260 hitter with 290 hits and 9 home runs.

"That's Not a Knife" - It's 10 player trade.  Atwell was part of a 10 player deal following his rookies season that saw him shipped to Pittsburgh in a transaction that sent Hall of Famer Ralph Kiner to the Cubs.

"More of a love bite really..." - I'm guessing it was a dull blade at the printing press that led to the frayed right edge of this card.  It's problem I often see on 70's O-Pee-Chee hockey cards.

"Down Under" - Atwell is card #356 in the 1952 set.  That's a high number that I don't own. I'm not wild about either card, but I'll give the nod to the '52 by virtue of the partial catcher's mitt that's visible.  That cuts the '53 set's lead to 28-26-7.
