#19 Mel Parnell

#19 Mel Parnell

77 of 274

28.1% complete

"His Walk About" - Mel spent all ten of his MLB seasons with the Boston Red Sox, amassing a career record of 123-75 while posting a 3.50 ERA.  A two time All-Star, Mel finished 4th in AL MVP voting in 1949 when he led the American League with 25 wins and 27 complete games.

"That's Not a Knife" - It's a no-hitter.  On July 14, 1956, Parnell no-hit the White Sox at Fenway Park.  Parnell remains the Red Sox all-time leader in wins and IP for a left handed pitcher.

"More of a love bite really..." - This card suffers from a little water damage, but is otherwise in pretty great shape.

"Down Under" - Parnell is card #30 in the 1952 set. I've got no issues with this '53, and would call it better looking than average, but I still prefer the '52.  That cuts the '53 set's lead to 27-25-7.
