#179 Gene Hermanski

#179 Gene Hermanski
66 of 274
24.1% complete

"His Walk About" -  Gene was a .272 career hitter over 9 seasons in the majors.  He collected 533 hits, most of them as member of the Brooklyn Dodgers, but he also spent a fair amount of time as a Chicago Cub and had brief stint with the Pittsburgh Pirates.  116 of his hits came as a Dodger in 1948 when he also hit 15 homers and drove in 60 runs while batting .290.

"That's Not a Knife" - It's the number 42.  According to Gene's wikipedia page, it was his suggestion that all of the Dodgers wear the #42 to support their teammate, Jackie Robinson.

"More of a love bite really..." - I don't mind admitting I lack the eye of some of my fellow collectors, especially those who are enthusiast of slabbing cards.  Because I can't find anything wrong with this one.

"Down Under" - Hermanski is card #16 in the '52 Topps set. I don't think it'll be very controversial to say that the '52 is a much better looking card.  That cuts the '53 set's lead at 27-23-8.

"At the Oscars"

6th NL Stolen Bases '48
